Avadhut Chavan is a member of the Financial Services, Asset Management and Regulatory practice of the Firm at its Mumbai office.
Prior to joining RegFin Legal, Avadhut Chavan worked with SEBI for a period of 13+ years in various departments including Investigations Department, Corporation Finance Department – Issues and Listings as well as Supervision, and AFD-Supervision Division (AIFs).
He has varied experience across various departments in SEBI and has conducted and assisted in many high-profile investigations. He has vast experience in conducting Investigations related to alleged violations of Securities Markets laws and Regulations including PFUTP, PIT and Front Running Investigations. In his last stint, he was in supervisory division of SEBI’s AIF and FPI Department (AFD-SEC) and has undertaken multiple examinations of alleged violations of AIF Regulations, conducted Inspections of AIFs, examined Alerts from periodical filings including quarterly filings and PPM Audit report filings.
He is hands on with Enforcement processes related to Securities Markets Violations including Settlement Proceedings, Quasi-Judicial Proceedings and AO Proceedings etc. His role in SEBI at various times, included drafting of Show Cause Notices (SCN), analyzing replies to SCN, facilitating hearings and assisting in drafting of orders.
He holds a graduate degree in law from Mumbai University, MBA in Finance from Mumbai University and Engineering Degree from Mumbai University.
